Kong

LIZ SAYS: We honestly just wanted lunch after running errands and there we were, at the base of one of the loveliest derelict buildings in all of Paris. It is the Samaratine Department Store. It has a gorgeous, colorful, multisided facade. It is the kind of building that you go out of your way to see if you are anywhere near it. Louie Vitton offices are next door, the workers with their backs to this beauty, lest they be distracted. So, like moths to a flame, we headed towards it when looking for a pretty late lunch.
I've been trying to find new places to eat because it is so easy to get settled into a few familiar places and cease to break out, in a city of a million restaurants.
So, okay, here we are at the base of the Samaritine and we see a sign for a restaurant + an elevator. That equals a view.
We had to see. We entered on the penultimate floor, from the elevator to find a empty, split level restaurant.
The name was Kong and there were strong hints that the food would be somehow Asian. Could be sushi, could be Thai. The only Kong I could think of was the dog/bird chew toy.
But, the restaurant was empty, a classic bad sign. Then again, we were there during tourist hours, most Parisians would have eaten an hour ago.

My salad turned out to be what I would call Asian fusion. It was great, although the noodles were too gunky to be desirable.
But it was the view, out of the curved window, onto the Seine and the angles of the department store facade are fantastic all the way through twilight.
