Tiffany to Techno

LIZ SAYS: We went to see the Tiffany exhibition at the Luxembourg Garden’s Museum.
On the way to the show, we passed the Orangerie and there was a show by a woman named Christine Jean that was visible through the open doors. It turned out to be a group exhibition, but she was clearly the star. Sh had large paintings of goldleafed hands with what looked like burn marks on them. It was as if she had lit a torch to the gold leaf in spots. The effect was a matte blackish spot with an olive green ring in the shape of a splash of fire. They were fabulous.
As usual, the Tiffany was exquisite, with some pieces I had never seen.
We walked through the garden, now in its late summer, early fall coloring, no trees turning yet, but still beautiful. More yellows with accents of other contrasting colors.
Walking through the park we could hear a thump, thump, thump. So, we walked towards it. As we approached the street, we notice a crowd, and people standing on the sculptures, like they do when they want to see in the distance. We could see a lot of smoke in the distance, but there was no sense of danger.
Then, the obligatory people on stilts, yes, its a European parade. It turned out to be a TechnoParade. A parade dedicated to Techno music and live dj’s spinning on huge trucks obviously built just for parades. Thousands of people in weird and not so weird outfits, some totally wasted and some just watching and dancing.
The whole thing paraded through Paris from the Luxembourg to the Bastille, its a moderately long way. It had the trucks of dj’s spinning with huge speakers on the back, smoke truck, that blew out tons of smoke, a water truck that soaked people with water, oh joy.
We left before the smoke truck ‘because a my asthma’.
Saturday afternoon in Paris.
