AVATAR FRANCAIS
LIZ SAYS: We went to our first movie in Paris last night. It was Avatar, the big block buster in 3D. We had to rent the giganto 3D glasses for 3 euros and then return them to the theatre, which was my only real complaint. I immediately thought that that added the cost of one entrance fee for every 3 pairs of glasses, so the sales figures could be distorted. Funny what you think after 6 commercials for EDF (France's energy company) and Haribo Japanese candies. However, the movie did not disappoint, the tale was typical but the visuals were fun. I was surprised how I got over the look of the Na'vi. The 3D glasses did make me feel sea sick at the beginning.
Okay, so a movie in Paris. First of all, the theatre was tiny by US standards. I have never been in a theatre so small.
Although they do sell things to eat, including popcorn, Frederic explained that eating it was noisy, so it was impolite. Once the movie started, the place was utterly silent. No one made a sound, no startled gasps, no laughter and absolutely no talking, not even a cough. It was great. The floors were not sticky. There were no children, if there were teens, they were very courteous.
Oh geez, Papa Schultz is on TV (in French), you may remember it as Hogan's Heroes. Oh that wacky prisoner of war camp!
I won't talk about the movie. It was entertaining. After we turned in our goggles, we exited through the tiniest spiral staircase, typical of Paris but illegal in the States, I'm sure!
