TOP TEN THINGS THEY DON'T TELL YOU ABOUT AMSTERDAM

6. It's Flat but it's not level. When you tell someone you are coming to Amsterdam, they say, "oh, good walking city, flat and you can ride a bike everywhere. Well, yes and no. It's flat but it ain't level. I wore my best Heschung boots and Paul Green faux-Converse sneakers with Birkenstock insoles to walk this town. And, its still no picnic. Between the charming cobbles and narrow wavy brick walkways it can wreck havoc on your ankles. Oh, on the upside there is less dog poo than in Paris. But, like everywhere, when garbage day enters the picture,no sidewalk is big enough to separate your from the mystery funk. Yeah, and those bike riders, uh, they rule the friggin' streets so you best hop to when you hear that polite little 'ting, ting' of the bike bell. They will run you down.
