Bastille Day! but, Can Your Firemen Do This?
LIZ SAYS: One of the things that is exceptional about living in France is the military parade. It's Bastille Day and military planes fly over the apartment in formations with red, white and blue smoke streaming out. Planes we have only seen on TV are roaring overhead. Everyone comes out on their balconies to watch what they just saw on TV happen overhead.
It's actually thrilling, since in the US we never had these brazen displays of military power all dressed up in feathers and brass. It doesn't feel very military as much as decorative. 'Look at all our nice shiny things and our pretty soldiers with their shiny swords and polished guns". Its a long way from war.
And even further from war is the Pompier, the firemen. They put on a spectacular display. Parisian firemen are buff, rough and ready and incredible, wait for it ... gymnasts!
They did a wild tumbling routine arranging the ladders into pyramids and bounding off of them onto a trampoline, in hot pants!
I swelled with pride at the thought that 'my' firemen were so hot!
