Not for sale show
Not for sale show LIZ SAYS: There was a sometimes standard, but mostly funny show of contemporary art at the Passage de Retz. It's a gallery that occupies a whole passage. It's gigantic and meandering with little courts and courtyards between rehabbed raw wooden understructure. The canvases and sculptures have to compete with the gorgeous deconstruction of it all. The show was called Not For Sale and it meant what it said. Instead, we had to pay an entrance fee. It was easily worth it. The space was just fantastic, even the arty but scary naked steel spiral staircase I had to climb to get to the upper floor. One of the funniest pieces was an open letter to Bill Gates with documentation. It was written by a guy who swam out to Gate's bazillion dollar 'home' and couldn't get in. It had me laughing out loud.
