BHV's Sound Installation

LIZSAYS: BHV is the same ‘hardware store’ where Marcel Duchamp bought the toilet that would become the Fountain. So, I guess you can say it is the most famous hardware store in Paris, at least. It has a huge creative section with art supplies and anything you could want, including notions, buttons and  fashion clothing. And, they still sell toilets.
Upstairs we went to buy some photo paper when Dick spotted a sign for an installation.

There in an empty room, that used to be the Apple section of the store, there was an igloo made of old speakers. The windows of the room were outfitted with winter snow and trees. BHV was celebrating Christmas Quebecois style, so they could have snow and pretend it was really cold.

Inside the igloo there were two mics hanging from the top and pillows to sit on.

It was all a sound installation. You sit inside and the mics pick up the sounds you make which are then played, in real time, through the speakers. The consequence was a rumble bumble of echoes as the speakers are facing in. It was not very loud, so it was a wild whispering conflation of tones. Quite cool for a hardware store, eh?
