Dude, where's my fare?

Two guys just got caught trying to ride on the train with no tickets. They spoke perfect, American style English and were incredibly apologetic. I couldn't help but wonder where in the US can you get on a train and buy a reasonable priced ticket on it, with no reservation, I.e. payment.
Busted.
Often, when we get on the train with our Internet discount tickets, we see people, mostly Abercrombie and Fitch models-in-their-minds, who think they can just breeze past, if anybody just looks at them. This time, the ticketmaster was not impressed and put the fear of god in them dag nab it. Seriously chastened, they ran off he train at Schipol.
The ticketmaster informed them that they had a choice. They could get off at the next stop and buy reasonably priced tickets for the next train, which will come an hour later or they could pay the maximum price right now. The maximum price was 240€ one way.
