Eat at Renault
Eat at Renault
LIZ SAYS: Okay, so it's not the first place I would pick to have lunch. But, you know, it was beginning to rain through the sunshine and there we were on the Champs Elysees.
We were with the Honeymooners and our first 2 choices were full up. So, we are plowing through the tourists and teens trying to scout out something, anything to throw down our throats. Just then Ralph says, “Have you ever eaten at the Renault Cafe?” The nose in my head instantly turns up, I mean, wtf, does a car manufacturer know about making me lunch? Well, they knew enough.
First, we tried to sit in my favorite area in any resto, the outside. But, no,no, no, that was only for drinkers, at that particular moment. Okay, I’ll go up the steps to the, hey, it's not so bad, cushy seated cafe.
The whole place was pulsing with a huge video presentation for the cutest little electric car-lets called Twizys. The whole thing seemed to have something to do with David and Kathy Guetta (France’s most popular record scratcher and his wife). Their names were emblazoned on everything. And there were lights spinning with huge splashes of color everywhere. Toy Twizy’s to sit in and real Twizy’s to play with, but not drive. Woomp whoomp woo!
Upstairs, the menu let you know immediately, this was boyland. Huge shakes and sandwiches with monster desserts were being served all around me. And, by then, the sun shower was in full bloom. The rain was dousing all those drinkers sitting with their umbrellas open, under the sun umbrellas, outside. So, that boyland menu was looking better by the moment. I opted for a chicken Caesar, which turned out to have deep fried chicken strips on it. Looking out the huge window, down on the soaked pedestrians, made me really happy that Ralph had mentioned this place. And, of course, who doesn’t love crunchy fried chicken bits?
We did play, downstairs, with all the little Twizy things. There were lots of guys and their kids taking photos of the Formula One race car prominently displayed in the window. Car tat ruled. If you were in the market for a Renault racing jacket or a Twizy teddy bear, it was there, ripe for the picking. All and all, we had a great time. For me, it was totally unexpected. As for Dick, Ralph and Alice, I have a feeling they knew it would be fab all along.
