LIZ SAYS: After months of trying to find it again, I finally found the fabulous fungus exhibition that I posted ages ago. This time I took the time to actually get the info. It turns out that during my first visit, they were actually just setting up the exhibition. Now, it is going full force. It is still one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Everything about fungus, whether art, science or commerce, presented without prejudice or preference. There was a new mushroom playing the musical instrument and it was rocking! Now, it costs two fifty to enter, but there is a woman who will explain as much as you want. It is all very low key, but fascinating nonetheless.
It turns out the huge plastic covered wall is actually tomato paste fungusized, yeah, I made up that word. Its a wall of tomato paste with fungus growing all over it, covered with a plastic sheet, so we don’t all wretch.
It also turns out that the chair eating fungus is working away. There are examples of plastic that was eaten by the fungus in 10 months. Fantastic!
The water based growing system, the Mediamatic Aquaponics Tower, with fish on the bottom, was up and running. It was 3 layers of plants and filtering with fish swimming in the bottom. The whole system was growing on a purple looking light, which made for a gorgeous display.
I was still impressed. Everyone, buy a ticket to Amsterdam, check out this exhibition, now. Mediamatic Bank, Mediamatic.net
Its fun!
