Unfortunately, today, I have to be inside again. The washer, dryer is coming from Darty, which includes installation. On top ofthat, I have to clear out the trash made by the 11 boxes that arrived yesterday. So much styrofoam, padding and boxes that I just bought and packed on the other side of the ocean. Everything that has come so far has been mostly intact, but it is bizarre to throw away something you just paid for. Okay, okay, its styrofoam, but I still remember unpacking it from the boxes it came to my house in!
There was such an abundance of packing mess that I could not get around the apartment. Oh, boo hoo.
So, I had to go to the grocery store, the kind of place where you buy the dry goods, garbage bags, laundry soap. Everything else comes from a shop of its own. So I take my orange cart and head out and lo and behold the market was up. It happens 2 times a week. Evidently, one of those days is Friday. It appears in the Place Monge, the Square, with a fountain, just a block down the street.
There is a permanent market 2 blocks in the other direction, but this one pops up and disappears a few hours later.
It was glorious, people chatting, fish still breathing, a woman giving away kittens, fresh vegetables, some clothing, some hot meals warmed and steaming, meats and sausages on piles of sauerkraut in big paella-like pans, fresh cheeses in all sorts of shapes and configurations, honeys, soaps, all fresh and just thrilling. Just the idea of picking something was a wonderful delight!
I picked some apples, a type I was unfamiliar with, some fresh looking sheep cheese, and some sort of honey chocolate bread, which was sliced off of a gigantic loaf. All things I have never had, don't recognize and will feast on with great curiosity.
What a lovely surprise. It was a great treat for having to spend the day inside as the rain was fading and the styrofoam goes into the masses of fresh big, black garbage bags.
