a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Versailles

LIZ SAYS: We were planning to go out to Versailles to see something I will tell you about after we see it. So, we get up in the morning and I look out the living room window and there it is. The sure sign that someone is moving above us.

When someone moves into an apartment with the french doors, like most of Paris, they have to use this lift.
It is like a telescoping open ended cherry picker that can go up to 7 stories high. First, the telescoping ladder goes up, then, a platform slides up and down it with loads of huge boxes and mattresses. If it is raining, tough luck.
Once the platform reaches the balcony or 'french doors' then the movers have to pull everything in. Its kind of cool, very expensive (500 euros just for it to arrive) and it scares Buster to death.
He plastered himself to the front of his cage, as far from the window as possible. If we leave him alone, he would get little birdy post traumatic stress syndrome. It has happened before, so we knew we could not leave until the new upstairs neighbor was all moved in.
We had to keep saying, "It's alright, it's okay sweetie" but it worked, so we saved his little bird sanity and watched everything our new 7th floor neighbor owns go up on the Parisian lift.
