Henry Moore or Less
LIZ SAYS: Finally a day of sun. The snow had abated and the sun was glorious. We were all out, every Parisian that could get out was out. There was even a protest, Lyonaise nurses marching about problems with education.
I had been waiting since before Thanksgiving in America to see an exhibition of Henry Moore's sculpture on the grounds of the Rodin Musee (museum). I was thrilled! When we hit the pavement, we noticed a slight glaze of ice in spots, but nothing compared to the streets of Wisconsin this time of year. We ran, slid and skated to the Museum in the wonderful, wonderful sun. The melting ice on the Hausmann buildings made twinkling water drops cascading off the black iron balconies look magical.
The Rodin Musee is a wonderful place to go, it has the museum with Rodin's fabulous larger than life bronze sculpture of course, but it has more than that. It has a garden of trimmed greenery and sculpture, a fountain and paths. It has a great view of the Eiffel Tower and the golden dome of the Invalides over conical pines.
All this comes from memory becuase at the door, we were met by this sign.
Our hearts sank. After my minor hissy fit, we decided to chin up and treat ourselves to a favorite restaurant with fresh pasta and a pink from Provence. As we were walking away from the museum, tails tucked between our legs, I noticed a break in the cement wall with windows to the garden. I could see the Henry Moore in the garden. Click, click.
The stroll to the restaurant gave us more time to revel in the sun. After lunch we walked until we were to tired to walk anymore.
