LIZ SAYS:I saw a show today that had an intense effect on me. The artist did an immense number of self portraits. I thought, but to look at yourself so much, so often, to see without being locked into judgement. If this is me, who are you? LIZ SAYS: This was after the Claude Cahun show at the Jeu de Paume, which is in a pleasant destination, even if it weren't for the art shows in the sunflower surrounded building. Out of the sunlight and into a darkish environment to view black and white self portraits of a surrealist woman that floated through visual existences as if gender were just the mere subcategory that it is. Just the act of facing the camera so many times seems like a feat to me. Of course, I'm not usually telling camera what to see. She blurred the line between herself and a beach, the lines of nature and architecture. Great show.
