Foire du Trone Parade

I Love a Parade, Especially an Unexpected One

LIZ SAYS: We decided to ride our bikes out to the Bois de Vincennes on a lovely day a couple of weeks ago. As we arrived at the lagoon, I noticed a sign ,” Foire du Trone Apvil-Mai.” Dick had no cue as to what this was about, and neither did I.
What was this Fair of the Throne maybe, Royal Fair? We had seen no sign of such a thing before, so we googled it and I found that Yannick Noah had introduced one in another city. Oh, well. So we visited the lagoon and had lunch nearby. It had been a good ride and a really nice day.
On our way back into Paris, we ran into a police blockade. The music that we had assumed was coming from someone’s obnoxiously loud car speaker system, was gradually getting louder and it was beginning to sound  more acoustic. That is because it was a marching band. We had been stopped so that the Foire du Trone parade could march right across our path.
What a treat, majorettes in pink twirling and tossing batons, Hula dancers in plastic coconut bras swishing their hips nonchalantly, floats of kids in costumes eating candy and waving, men dancing with swords. It ended with faux fat guys throwing oranges to the crowd from baskets What’s not to love?
