LIZ SAYS: There has been a lot of rain, which makes for a uniquely Parisian thing. We all still want to eat and drink outside. So, there are tables of people hovering under awnings with clear plastic sides, watching the downpour. Every now and then, the water overloads a section of the awning and a couple of bucket loads of rain splash down on a passerby or a table that is too close to the edge. Everyone expresses sympathy for the newly drenched and does any little thing to help. It's of course pointless, but so sweet.
