Trompe L’Oeil Les Arts Decoratifs

LIZ SAYS: If you take the broadest definition of Trompe-L'oeil you will come up with a show that delights and fools the eye. Les Arts Decoratifs is one of my favorite exhibition spaces in Paris. The permanent exhibition has some great art nouveau  rooms and the back yard is a great luncheon on the grass site, with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
This show was called Trompe-L'oeil- Imitations, pastiches et autres illusions and it was true to its word. There was every kind of item being not what it seems to be. I was surprised and delighted with the range of items on display. It reminded me of the various ways we are always reinterpreting what is right in front of us. From jackets that are not what they seem to flooring that pretends to be more than it is, look around you, it is all there to fool the eye. Oui?
