Haarlem
LIZ SAYS: This trip to Amsterdam took us out to the sea, sorta, kinda, a little bit.
We took ferries out to the far reaches of Amsterdam. A land where the shipping industry is given a bit of way to creativity and innovation.
We also went to Haarlem, a sweet little place, in and of itself. But, we went to see the Naar Zee art exhibition about the Dutch and the Sea.
We were treated to the “best piece of cake in Haarlem”. The waitress told us so. Who were we to argue? It was quite the yummy carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. It was the best piece of cake we had in Haarlem that day. So, she was right!
We ran into a show at the Old Fish Market. The light was so strong on this very sunny day, that it made seeing the art a bit difficult. The buildings huge sun roof let in the strong, harsh sunlight that cast great shadows on the pieces. But, there was one set of portraits that were immediately recognizable.
