Stedlijk Con't
The most provocative video pieces was in the BlikOpeners room. There were three video screens showing the same person talking about what he thought on several subjects. When I entered he was putting on his clothes, saying what label was in every item and how much it costs. He wore only designer labeled goods and seemed to consider it part of his job as a man to display his portable wealth in fabric patterns and logos. He expressed his views on the women in his life and how they related to the maintenance of his attire. He reflected on how he saw himself and how he thought others saw him. And, he talked about his view as an immigrant. It immediately struck me how we were all voyeurs. We were watching a young man get dressed. We were listening to his inner thoughts. We all wanted to know, but if he were standing in the room, no one would have asked him those questions or watched him get dressed. It wasn’t polite. The piece was a lot deeper than just this thought and that made it genius!
Jenny Holzer doing Orwell.
