this photo is from a couple of weeks ago at Luxembourg Gardens. The fountain was draped in fluffy cloth that floated in the breeze.
LIZ SAYS:The first day of spring or the last day of winter, we weren't quite sure as we walked with Fredric yesterday. We met him at a restaurant thinking that we were going to see an exhibition, but we decided just to stroll to our apartment and look at the progress. Frederic hadn't seen it yet, so we could show him the place and check on the progress.
We noticed people walking into passage and we wondered what it was. When the man at the entrance noticed our curiosity, he beckoned us in. It turned out to be a concert of a cappella modern music concert by singers from the Sorbonne. The music sounded at once medieval and modern. It was beautiful and strange, we stayed for 3 songs and quietly left. When we got outside, we decided it was indeed modern. Frederic said that when he heard music like that it always made him feel lonely. I hadn't thought of it, I was just stunned by the beauty of the women's voices and the acoustics of the 12th century building. It was all huge wooden beams and dark. So, even though it was a fairly gray day, outside was much better than inside.
We walked and talked, it is what I love about Paris. Frederic loves finding new passages, just off the main streets, you walk into what looks like a courtyard but there is no gate, and there you find something going on, whether it is a shop or a concert and a quite place with a character all its own. It can be from the 12th century or the 19th, but it is utterly different from the space just outside the entrance.
We looked at the apartment and even though it is still a mess, it was light and airy. Even though it was not the sunniest of days, it was filled with light. Conrad found that we needed to put in a steel 'I' beam, then the whole kitchen and living room are opened up into one larger space. The ceiling with its moulding is still preserved, but the awkward 70's wall is gone. Most of the tiles are in but not grouted, so it is beginning to look more like a series of rooms than a total warzone.
